Charles Allison Wood Sr.

Charles A. (Chilly) Wood born at Delphi, Indiana July 12, 1901 to William H. and Opal Mary Cartwright Wood.
Mr. Wood was Mayor of Delphi 17 years, city judge four years and city councilman three years. While mayor he fostered the flood control project, began the improvement program for the water works system including the water works building. He was responsible for the beautification and redevelopment of Riley Park and Riley Park Annex.

He was a lifetime member of the Delphi Methodist Church, having served as chairman of the board of trustees, Sunday School superintendent and was active in many other capacities of the church. He and a committee updated the history of the church.

He had held several positions in local and district Boy Scouts including being a member of the board of the Three Rivers Council. In 1953 he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, one of the hightest honors in scouts.

Mr. Wood was a member and past president of Delphi Rotary Club, in 1955 was named its "OUtstanding Citizen of the Year", in 1947 received national recognition for his service to Rotary. He had served as director and president of the Delphi Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Carroll County Old Settlers Association, the Masonic Lodge of Delphi and had been active with youth in the Little League program.

Mr. Wood had been employed by the Carroll Telephone Company for 50 years where he retired.

Along with a very active life he raised three sons, Charles A. Jr., David Alan, and William Arthur Wood and later two grandsons.  He died Feb. 14, 1977 at Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.
