David Alan Wood Sr

Marilyn Jean Hubbard Wood

David Alan Wood Sr. was born Set.24, 1926, in Delphi, and was the son of Charles A. Chilly Wood and Opal May Berry Wood. He had two brothers; Charles Allison b. Sept. 22, 1924 and William Arthur b. Feb. 6, 1929.

Mr. Wood was a 1944 Graduate of Delphi High School and had a scholarship to Purdue University. He was drafted from Purdue into the Army during WW II. While in the Army Mr. Wood served with the Japanese Occupational Force in Japan until he mustered out in 1945.

He was married to Marilyn Jean Hubbard on June 24, 1945 in Delphi. She preceded him in death on May 28, 1987. They had a son David Alan Jr. born July 10, 1947 and a daughter Rebecca Ann born Sept. 30 1960

He was an Army veteran of WW II and as such was active in the American Legion Post 175 of Delphi. Mr.Wood was also a volunteer fireman serving with the Tri-Township Fire Department for over thirty years. At a banquet in 1988 he was recognized for his distinguished service as a fireman. Mr. Wood worked at the Carroll County Telephone Company and was employed there for 42 years until he retired in 1988 from Alltel Telecom which was formerly the Carroll County Telephone Company. While at the phone company Mr. Wood served in the capacity of a technical specialist working on the phone company's complicated switching equipment and keeping it up to par. He kept current with the technological changes and was sent to a specialty school in Chicago in the late 50's where he graduated first in his class. A Life Member of the United Methodist Church of Delphi he volunteered his services as an usher and held other post in the the church.

Mr Wood passed away at 10:55 pm July 6, 1990, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been patient for four days. He was survived by a daughter, Rebecca Clear of Camden, and a son David A. Wood Jr., Columbia S.C.: his mother, Opal of Delphi, two brothers, Charles A. Wood and William A. Wood, both of California, and five grandchildren. Services were held at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ellwood Smith officiating. Burial with American Legion Rites was in Masonic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association.
